Six nations community members attend 50th annual Little NHL

Many Six Nations members attended the 50th annual Little NHL in Markham Ontario over the weekend on March 15-17.

The Little NHL stands for “The Little Native Hockey League”. It was started in 1971 as a tournament by 5 First Nations youth — Earl Abotossaway, Jim McGregor, James D. Debassige, Leonard Self and Norman Debassige.

It is amongst indigenous hockey players and Six Nations families were in attendance, also were members of Six Nations Elected Council (SNEC) Chief Sherri Lynn hill and Councillor Greg Fraser.

Councillor Fraser also took time during Monday night’s general finance meeting to thank the community for their excellent participation. He also said that he spoke with the Mayor of Markham and he was very pleased with the outcome.
